With a repertoire spanning four centuries, Canadian soprano Danielle Buonaiuto is among a versatile and dynamic generation of singing actors. Her compelling characterization and gift for storytelling make her a sought-after interpreter of new music, as well as the classics of the oratorio and art song repertoire.
Danielle made her symphonic debut in 2011 with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as Knabe 1 in Die Zauberflöte. She has since appeared as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Caramoor Festival, Peninsula Music Festival, Lucerne Festival, and she maintains an active concert schedule in her home base of New York City as a soloist, chamber, and choral musician. She was affiliated with the Baltimore-based pierrot ensemble, Lunar Ensemble, and lends her voice to the Oregon Bach Festival Berwick Chorus and the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera.
Danielle’s commitment to new music extends beyond performance to the commissioning and cultivation of emerging composers, both with Lunar Ensemble and as a solo artist. Her special interest in the genre of art song has led to recitals at the Wright Theater in Baltimore and the Old Stone House in Brooklyn, among others. Upcoming projects include a full-length album of new art song, in addition to her collaborations with New York-based ensembles such as Tenth Intervention, whose installation with video artist John Sanbornwill be exhibited in France in November 2016. Other premieres this year include Rob Deemer's Vox humana with the Buffalo Phil, as well as an evening-length collaboration with composer James Young and soprano Lisa Perry. Residencies this season include Bang on a Can and Avaloch Farm Music Institute.
